Articles of Association

Against the backdrop of all the other changes, there has been an update of our constitution. Here is a message from our Convener, Professor Jeremy Smith:

Dear Supporter

At the AGM in 2016 it was decided, as part of our constitutional changes relating to new legislation, to develop a new model for involving interested folk more directly in our work. Because we have been having to concentrate on the various changes detailed elsewhere in this newsletter, we have not been able to move on this matter as swiftly as we would have wished.

However, now that Rhona has taken up her post as our new Chief Executive, we are getting to grips with the new set-up. We have decided to establish for all our regular supporters (formerly 'members') a new category: Friends of Scottish Language Dictionaries. Friends will not only receive the Newsletter, but also special offers, and invitations to events, including meetings from time to time where they will have the opportunity to contribute to discussion about SLD's public-facing strategy. So watch this space!

I should also add that we have made three new appointments to the Board, in each case spreading our connections — as we are very keen to do — into a wider range of sectors. The new Directors are: Caitrin Armstrong, Head of Writer Development at the Scottish Book Trust; Bruce Eunson, Scots Language Coordinator at Education Scotland, and Sarah Mason, Programme Director at the Saltire Society. We are most grateful to Caitrin, Bruce and Sarah for their help, and look forward very much to working with them.

Changes to Friends of SLD administration

We are also planning to move to one common renewal date for annual subscriptions, and to simplify payment methods. Over the coming months we will contact each of our Friends individually to explain how this will affect you.
