The Word Collection
The National Word Collection is our ongoing electronic record of spoken and written Scots. We research a wide variety of sources through two major programmes, the Reading Scheme and the Oral Collection Scheme, and the information we gather is compiled into the Word Collection. See the links to the right for more information on these projects.
The word collection consists of the following sub-projects:
We use the information in the Word Collection to compile and update all our dictionaries and dictionary projects. Most recently it was used to create the New Supplement to the Scottish National Dictionary, which you can consult on the Dictionary of the Scots Language website. Among other resources, the Word Collection will be used for the new edition of the Concise Scots Dictionary.
The pages to the right tell you a bit more about how the Word Collection works and how you can get involved.
